With increasing numbers of properties coming online around the island, the Koh Samui rental pool is expanding all the time. Many high-end villas and apartments are built with the express intention of generating a rental return, while others are managed on behalf of owners in their absence or rented out on an occasional basis. Obviously, a largely transit population means that rental clients are rarely in short supply and the recent completion of numerous villa developments around the island also means that holiday rentals have become a popular option for visitors.

Some agents offer special rates to long term clients, especially during the low tourist season months, but during the peak season properties can generate very high rental yields, as they are often rented solely only on a nightly basis in the same way as a hotel room.

The rental market on Koh Samui has yet to reach a level where all owners are guaranteed a fast return on their investment through rental yields alone. However, the benefits are considerable when balanced against a property's capital appreciation and the fact that many buyers also actually use their holiday home for at least a few weeks during the year.

Renting a property on Koh Samui is a relatively easy process as there are plenty of agents willing to advertise, manage and even maintain a property in return for a percentage of the rental fee.
